Craving a place they could enjoy a craft-brewed beer, nice glass of wine, organic food and live music year-round, owners Jeff and Susan Gecas opened The Gun Flint Tavern in May 1998. The Raven Pub, featuring fine spirits in an old maritime-themed atmosphere opened May 2004 and The Ravens Nest, the roof top deck and full-service bar with the best view in town, opened in the spring of 2005.

The Gun Flint Tavern is located in beautiful downtown Grand Marais, Minnesota across from Harbor Park, with a fantastic unobstructed view of our harbor. Next door to the Tavern is the Johnson Heritage Post, sight of the old trading post that supplied the trappers, miners and explorers heading North on the old wagon road that would later be known as the Gun Flint Trail. Most likely many ventures inland started and ended on the very site of the Tavern, with a toast to health and good fortune. Stop in, we are sure you will enjoy our view, food, drinks, entertainment and our friendly, ‘make you feel welcome’ staff.

Since opening the Tavern in 1998, the dream was to become the North Shore’s first Brewpub. After 16 years of dreaming and 2 years of planning and construction, the Gun Flint Tavern proudly poured their first house-made beer on November 8th, 2014.
Our 5 barrel system, purchased from New Zealand helps us create our signature flavors. Gun Flint Tavern is known for having a definitive style and flavor profile and our brewpub allows us to deliver our creative efforts in another way. Stop in for a pint or growler of one of our six selections from our own brewpub or grab a pint of one of our other 18 micro-brews on draft.
Live Music Every Weekend Year-Round
The Gun Flint Tavern is the only place on the entire North Shore where you can hear live music every weekend of the year, including weekdays during the summer. Bluegrass, Jamgrass, Blues, Jazz, Reggae, Folk, Rock, Americana, Roots, Cajun, Irish and Sea Shanties are some of the types of live music you could hear on any given weekend. All shows are free and children are welcome with parents.
The Raven – A Nautical-Style Pub: The Raven is a quaint timber-framed pub across the hall from the main bar and dining room. The Raven serves Fine Spirits and Specialty Drinks in an Olde World atmosphere that will make you feel comfortable and content.

Menu: At The Gun Flint Tavern, organic product is used widely. We use olive oil for our grilled foods. A 20% gratuity will be added to all groups of 7 or more. We LOVED the town of Grand Marais. This hotel was the perfect location to walk anywhere in the town. It was so convenient to just walk to restaurants, shopping and the beach. The view from the room was fantastic and unexpected. The room had a little patio that overlooked the lake. It was very clean and had a nice tile shower with a double shower head. So much nicer than what I expected. They also had a very nice fitness room, which I didn’t use since the weather was great and we got lots of exercise outdoors. But this would be great in the winter or inclement weather. There was a free breakfast which was nice. They kept it clean and well maintained, which I noticed and appreciated. Can’t wait for our next trip! We will definitely stay here again!
